Google continues to release standalone apps on the play store. Google has already released some standalone apps on the Play store some of which include Google keyboard, Google android launcher, Google Now, Android Device Manager, Google Calendar and many more to add to this list. This time its turn of the android camera app from Google, that has surfaced on the Play store.
The camera app from Google is available for download on Play store but only for devices running of android KitKat 4.4 and above. The size of the app on Play store is around 15MB and has already reached 5000 downloads in a day. But is the new app from Google worth 15MB space from your mobile? Lets see it below
The app has sleek and minimalistic design and easy to use. The options like Panorama and photo sphere which Google claims to have included in the app do not appear anywhere in the app. We have tested the app on Moto G (running android 4.4.2 KitKat) which meets all the requirements of the app, still the options didn’t appear. It seems that Google needs to update the app or its has just released the app only for Nexus device, however Google has not stated it anywhere.
The app is simple, easy to use and has sleek design. The app does not have all the features, that Google boosts off. The app lacks basic features like panorama, photo sphere.
Installing the app will give features like Camera, Video, Photo Blur. We tested the photo blur feature from Moto G’s lens, and the you can see the results. The camera app comes with default option of low(fast) blur, giving the results which were not up to the mark. The blur quality increased when the default settings were changed to high in Settings>Quality & resolution>>Lens Blur quality>>High.
The photo blur feature is something we have seen in the past in third part camera applications or photo editors available of the Play store. This time Google has introduced it in its own camera app. This feature overall works well for photo’s taken of objects in 5 feet range.
Google has included all other standard options, with the app from flash to HDR.
Indoor images taken with the app looked granular, washed out and also were dark.. To verify this we even took some of images with original Motorola App, which appeared better than the Google app.
The app has the potential to be one of the better camera apps on the store, but seriously needs to work on to add more features, or at the least should ensure that all the included features work. You can download the app from Play Store.Google Camera App review in depthhttp://www.gadgetcluster.com/2014/04/google-camera-app-review-in-depth/http://i2.wp.com/www.gadgetcluster.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/google-camera-app-for-android.png?fit=450%2C450http://i2.wp.com/www.gadgetcluster.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/google-camera-app-for-android.png?resize=150%2C150 APPSGOOGLEapps,GOOGLE
