A new York man has set a new world record for having the most gaming titles collection. 43 year old man from New York has set the record with 10,607 game titles, which he has collected over the years. All the gaming titles are stored at his house in Buffalo, New York.
Michael Thomasson, the gaming title collector has set a new world record by dethroning earlier record of 8616 since 2010. According to Michael, he has gaming titles more than the official figure of 10,607, as he claims to have found more titles in his house after the official counting of titles by Guinness World records team was completed. According to him the actual number of titles would be near about 11,000 or may be more. All the titles put together account to almost $7,00,000 to $8,00,000.
Michael’s collection also include some of the rare systems like Casio Loopy and Apple’s Pippin console, apart from conventional platforms like Xbox and Playstation. Michael was quoted saying
I have games on cartridge, laser disc. I have VHS-based games, cassette-based games.
By profession Michael is a teacher, who teaches 2D animation, Game Design and Video Games history at Canisius University in Buffalo, and gets only around 3 Hrs a week for playing games.
He had to sell his collection in 1989 as a fund raiser for Sega Genesis and in 1998 to sponsor his wedding.
