Google has released much rumoured Android KitKat 4.4 OS for Smartphones. Though the new OS does not have a complete overhaul, it does come with improved features and performances. Performance improvements hold the key in the latest android release. The OS is said to require 16% less space than its previous version android Jelly bean.
Though the new android KitKat features are difficult to spot from a layman’s view, the new OS offers many smart features as compared to its earlier OS. The new KitKat OS will bring performance improvements and can be installed even on almost every phone that supported the earlier android releases like the Jelly bean or even Ice cream sandwich (ICS) on which most of the phones run.
Android KitKat features
1. Voice command
Google for the first time has introduced voice command to the OS. Most of the other handset manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Sony have already been giving such features to their users. In this feature the device running the new OS can recognise the voice command “OK GOOGLE” to launch voice search, sending text messages, for navigations and also to play songs. In earlier versions Google had introduced voice search, voice command is a step ahead.
2. Controls at Lock Screen
Google KitKat supports chromecast. While playing music or projecting movies via chromecast users would see albums and movie art on the Lock screen. And can even stop, play and control music and movies without unlocking the screen.
3. Full view
Now while gaming, watching movies and reading e-books, the screen will automatically hide the notification bar and the lower buttons to give a larger view of the screen. All the hidden controls can be accessed on just one corner swipe.
4. Faster multitasking
The memory usage is optimised for lesser consumption and screen responsiveness is increased for better multitasking. This means that users can listen to music while browsing the web, play games, without a hitch.
5. Improved call list
The new phone app automatically prioritizes user contacts based on the people contacted the most. Users can also search for nearby places and businesses, your contacts, or people in Google Apps, without leaving the phone App.
6. Improved caller ID
Whenever users will get a call from a phone number not in their contacts, the phone will look for matches from businesses with a local listing on Google Maps and display them automatically.
7. Grouped messages
All the messages can be accessed, read and also can be sent from Google hangouts, without visiting that particular app. This makes simple to send messages from on app so the need of opening more apps is quenched.
8. Improved Emoji’s
Google has improved and also added emoji’s to express feelings and to reduce the typing time by just sending emoji’s.
9. Anywhere printing
Now users can print photos, documents, and web pages from the phone or tablet. Can print to any printer connected to Google Cloud Print, to HP ePrint printers, and to other printers that have apps in the Google Play Store.
10. Edit files anywhere
From apps like Quickoffice, users can open and save files on Google Drive, other cloud storage services, or your device. And with quick access to recently used files, it’swill be easier to send the file.
